Summary/Abstract: The article presents theoretical approach towards pilgrimage of anthropologist Victor Turner (1920–1983). In the context of this theory the features of analysis of pilgrimage are disclosing. The complex parts of Turners analysis on phenomenon of pilgrimage such as communitas, liminality, the location of pilgrimage sites are analyzed. The main limitations of this theory seen in the works of Turners opponents are discussed.
