The Right to Asylum. The emergence of political emigration in Czechoslovakia aft er 1948

Summary/Abstract: The communist triumph in February 1948 resulted in a wave of tens of thousands of refugees f leeing westwards from the Czechoslovak Republic. On the other hand, thousands of left wing political émigrés also found sanctuary in communist Czechoslovakia. This paper focuses primarily on the emergence and initial development of so-called political émigré groups in communist Czechoslovakia from 1948 to the mid-1950s.
