Summary/Abstract: Speaking today about the importance of Hassan Kafi's work, it is hard to resist the temptation of emphasising one contrast. Namely, that "ilmu-l-balaga" one' of the most important forms of Arab-Islamic studies - rhetoric was nurtured in a tiny village on the very outskirts of the powerful Ottoman Empire, Prusac. There have been few theoretical and philological disciplines which have been nurtured so eagerly and with such scholarly thoroughness, throughout the Arab world, as the study of rhetoric. Today when the large treasury of writings on rhetoric in Arabic is for the most part classified and available to us, one might say without exaggeration that through his work in this field Pruscak took Prusac from its obscurity on the fringes of the Empire, to the very heart of Ottoman civilisation and culture. Pruscak was exceptionally well informed about past achievements in Arabic Rhetoric - which itself was seen as an extraordinary literary theoretical discipline - and his works stood out amongst the numerous other scholars who had written on the same subject.
