The Challenges of Atheism to Contemporary Society

Summary/Abstract: Atheism is one of the most significant challenges for Christianity in contemporary society and it is not just a simple negation of God, but by reinterpreting the reality atheism becomes militant. The factors which increased the development of atheism are very distinct, beginning with the progress of science and technology and continuing with the alteration of the Gospel’s message by some of the officials of Christian denominations. Atheism cannot be neglected, especially because it is present in our contemporary society in every important areas: arts, philosophy, history, morals and politics. Being faced to this challenge, the Orthodox Church has to confess about the reality of holiness in the Church and about the true values of human being, values which are strongly ignored by the atheism.
