Culture and Politics as Gainers of Contemporary Modernization

Summary/Abstract: In this article the author elaborates normative definition of the “world of culture” as the “other nature” emphasizing the culture as the highest end of a man as a reasonable being and human species in general. Special attention within this definition the author gives to differentiation of culture from society in classical and contemporary philosophical thought. On the basis of this way defined notion of culture the author considers the foundational characteristics of cultural and historical identity of Europe, directing his attention to the problem of cultural unity of Europe. The article extensively presents standpoints of one of the most relevant European theoreticians on this matter, Jacques le Goff. In the last part of the article the contribution of German political philosopher Hermann Lübbe to consideration of philosophical aspects of political unification of Europe is considered.
