Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the problem of the efficiency increase in the Lithuanian insurance market. During the last ten years the insurance sector developed rapidly in quantitative as well as in qualitative terms. In spite of this fact there are still some possibilities to increase the efficiency of the insurance market. This paper analyses the reform of the financial supervision system, the implementation of captive insurance and mutual insurance regulations.
