Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on the differences between the economic elites in the former communist countries in Eastern Europe and in Western countries. Very different business environments require very different qualities from topmanagers. The business environments in Eastern Europe have more similarities to those in Latin America than to those in Western countries. Latin America is also characterized by systemic corruption, clientelism, uncertainty of contracts and high transaction costs.
