Parliamentary Election in Irak 2005. Reflection About Iraq´s Electoral System

Summary/Abstract: Iraq is doubtlessly a country with religiously and ethnically divided society. Selection of the electoral system has played a significant role there in the process of the setting up of a new political system. Like in plenty of other democratizing societies, correctly chosen electoral design should play an important role in the process of democratization of Iraqi society, as well as in the forthcoming phase of consolidation of the democratic regime. The question of Iraq's electoral design is the issue this paper deals with. The main aim of this work is to contribute to the debate about the appropriate setting of the electoral rules in Iraq, as well as in the other democratizing divided societies.
