Summary/Abstract: Essentially envisaged as a rebellious, subversive trend, postmodernism has often testified to its being highly dependent on tradition ,be it only in order to debunk or at least challenge the latter. Focussing on some of the most influential critical views on this issue, the paper aims at demonstrating the way in which, in the relation with tradition, postmodernism steers clear of nostalgia, establishing the balanced status between a parasitic trend and a revolutionary one.
