Kosovo, on the Way to the Final Status

Summary/Abstract: This article shows up what are the difficulties encountered throughout the process of working out the international status the region of Kosovo as a result of confrontation between the stand points of Belgrade on one side and the ones of the Albanian leadership in Kosovo on the other side. For Belgrade, participating in the negotiations chaired by Martti Ahtisaari constitutes, in line with a real politik outlook, going for the smallest evil if one would compare that with refusing any involvement at all. While the majority of Albanian politicians who stay under pressure of public opinion and language excesses of radical elements, avoid to make any significant compromises to addressing the demands of Serbia and international pressures, and prefer to postpone any firm commitment.
