Summary/Abstract: In his 1999 novel The Ground beneath her Feet, Salman Rushdie steps across the geographical and aesthetical borders that his fans are used to. In this novel, Rushdie makes a westward movement, replacing Bombay with New York, India with England and America. In his attempt to write about the modern phenomenon of globalization, Rushdie makes use of myths from both Eastern and Western cultures, all with the additional ingredient of other modern-day phenomena - rock'n'roll and pop culture.
