Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at discussing the two overarching topics of Carter’s short story collection: love and death. The primary focus is on the language and the imagery in the texts, and the metaphors and symbols employed. Special attention will be given to the images of food and eating habits as they are contrasted with or mirror the images of the body and the sexual act, the carnal aspect of both the characters and the situations being emphasized. In connection to this, something will be said about how the author uses recurrent symbols such as smells, colors and flowers.
