Summary/Abstract: In 1921 Pranas Dovydaitis started the second journal which was titled “Naujoji vaidilutė” (New Priestess). In the beginning it was intended for girls’ education but later became the journal of female intellectuals. Dovydaitis was familiar with the writings of Marija Pečkauskaitė (Šatrijos Ragana) and he approved of her Christian idealism and pedagogical projects. She started writing to “Naujoji vaidilutė” from its second issue: published her little book “Rimties valandėlė” (The Hour of Quiet), twenty three didactic articles, and several pieces of fiction. Influenced by the pedagogic ideas of F. W. Foerster, Pečkauskaitė elaborated her own conception of Christian education. That conception is based on eternal Christian values and directed towards spiritual revival in Christ. She treated the revival as a permanent process of increasing love to God in a human soul, woman’s/man’s love to God, and woman’s/man’s love to each other. In the educational program of Pečkauskaitė, Christian love is presented as the most noble virtue which unites a woman/man and God and directs human activity towards altruistic goals. She illustrates and explains the general principles of her conception by concrete examples and cases of altruistic service. She also uses them for the didactic purposes. The nucleus of Pečkauskaitė’s educational program is spirituality which is based on substantial moral principles and profound conviction that properly directed educational process leads towards self-education, self-control, and self-help. The model of Christian education, constituted by Pečkauskaitė, embraces all necessary psychic parameters: reason, senses and will
