Summary/Abstract: The flow of capital in the form of direct investment is today one of the most visible effects of the ongoing globalization process. The scale and dynamics of capital flows in the form of FDI is often a reflection of the state and development prospects of the region, nation or the world. Changes in the geographical and sectoral pattern of FDI worldwide, which was pointed out in recent years, strengthened in 2009 and will continue. These changes relate mainly to the growing importance of developing countries. On the other hand, financial integration in the EU reflects a more intense cross-border flows in Europe than in any other region of the world. Europe’s wealthier countries tend to move their capital to poorer countries, developing countries using lower production costs, while poorer countries may use this capital to affect innovation, competitiveness and economic development.
