Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of equivalence. It focuses, in particular, on the position of an equivalence within the theory of sign of classical structuralism. It discusses the limits of the representation model of sign and its relationship to the text in terms of translation as the basic semantic operation. The result is the adoption of a critical attitude towards unconditional (langue) understanding of the assumptions of human communication and accent on the advantages of the theory of codes.
