Media in a Neighborhood of Drug Addiction and Gambling

Summary/Abstract: Drug addictions and gambling are social and medical problems that impose a significant burden on society. Methadone maintenance is an effective and most widely used treatment for opiate addiction in medicine. But understanding of the underlying biology of addictions is just an aspect of the problem, moreover solving consequences only. From the side of media liabilities in taking effect on the entire scope of human experience the question of understanding sounds: By what channels we could provide and ensure wanting prophylaxis. From this point of view the article reviews a socio-psychological study implemented by 1200 interviews, summer 2007, in cross section of high-school generation of Slovakia with emphasis on orrelations between attitudes of youth to media and to some sorts of dependances (chemical or mental, like gambling) as a leisure time relief implication.
