Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes Confucian mentality in the context of the Japanese accelerated and catch-up modernization. Next, we review the impact of Confucianism on the overall structure, organization and functioning of the Japanese society. Finally, we outline the specific traits of Confucianism that define its feasibility to the process of modernization.
