National Science Centre and its role in research funding in Poland.

Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author presents the National Science Centre, a government executive agency set up to fund basic research. In the first section the legal basis, organization of the Centre and role of discipline coordinators are covered. Next, funding schemes of grants, fellowships and internships, as well as peer‑review procedures are discussed. In the final section the author provides general information on Centre’s performances and results of its activities to date.
