Summary/Abstract: Canadian Legislation Concerning Immigration. Immigration, a most significant phenomenon within the framework of political, social, cultural and religious life of the Canadian state, was for a long time the main means to increase its population. At the beginning, the immigration policy was highly liberal, an "open gates" policy; beginning with World War I, there was a shift from spontaneous immigration, supported by immigration agencies to an immigration under state control. The present study presents some of the main stages of the Canadian legislative initiatives concerning immigration.
