Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we propose a comparative approach to the relation between the religious aspect and the political power in state in the life of the Jewish people and of the other peoples in the Canaanite region and in its vicinity. One of the objectives of this comparative study is to emphasize both the elements of interference and the elements of delimitation between the political and the religious aspects of the ancient Syro-Palestinian area. Moreover, these objectives are linked to the perspective offered by such a comparative approach, which is to assert and acknowledge the importance and superiority of the Jewish culture and civilization in comparison with the cultural and religious characteristics of the other peoples in the proximity. Therefore, our main goal is to present the way in which the religious factor influenced and determined the identity and the national-political evolution of the Jewish people. In order to achieve all the proposed objectives, the paper is structured as follows: in the first part, we assess the religious aspect of the kingship period; and, in the second part, we bring into discussion the manner in which the sacerdotal class had exercised its authority in the state. Conclusions are presented at the end of the paper.
