Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the euro area and the influence of the Greek financial crisis on the Polish perspective on joining the Eurozone. The outbreak of the Greek crisis has dampened European Union new members’ initial enthusiasm for adopting the euro instead of their national currencies. Poland was one of the states intending to enter the euro area a couple of years after its accession to the EU. The global financial downturn has affected these plans and changed attitudes towards the European single currency. The examples of Sweden and Greece have demonstrated that an independent monetary policy can efficiently deal with an economic crisis. Therefore Poland’s path called “The road to the euro” has stalled.
