Summary/Abstract: The 20th century is already history. Nevertheless, we have not yet seen summative theological works that would provide an objective assessment of how Moral Theology developed and manifested itself in the extremely tensed context of this century. In Catholic and Protestant theology such works have already been published (Gibellini, 1994; Blaser, 1995). Their authors acknowledged that such an approach faces major difficulties. These difficulties are due first to the reductive character that is specific to any systematization of knowledge in a certain field, and second, to the fact that it is not summative works that are currently the most appreciated in theological research but strictly specialised works. With these preliminary remarks in mind, we ought to specify from the very beginning that the current study has its limits and shortcomings. Its main objective is not to provide a historical account of the evolution of Moral Theology in the 20th century, but to present in a systematic and, at the same time, synthetic manner, the significant highlights that were manifest during this century in this distinct field of theological reflection.
