Summary/Abstract: Previous research on the Stoicani-Aldeni aspect of Gumelniţa culture covered only several sites in Moldavia (Stoicani, Bârleşti, Ciorani, Drăgăneşti-Tecuci, Băneasa, Suceveni, Dodeşti, Gura Idrici, Puricani, along some surface research by Ghenuţă Coman) and Valachia (Sărata-Monteoru, Aldeni, Bălăneşti, Coţatcu, Apostolache, Mălăieştii de Jos). Among the last ones mentioned, one can include those from the Călmăţui Valley, although their cultural designation might not be accurate. In fact, the monograph published by I. T. Dragomir sometimes incorporates „classic” Gumelniţa settlements in the Stoicani-Aldeni cultural aspect. Reevaluating the Stoicani-Aldeni cultural aspect represents one important segment of an ongoing systematic research project, resulting from collaboration between the National History Museum of Romania and the History and Archaeology Museum of Prahova, focused on the Neo-Eneolithic in northern Valachia. The study aims at clarifying some of the features of this particular cultural aspect, especially in a region where similar approaches are quite an exception and not the rule. In doing so, the previous researches as well as our own already attained results play an important part. The evolution as well as the cultural connections of the Stoicani-Aldeni cultural aspect within the Lower Danube Eneolithic is the main issues of interest, including some recent opinions on reevaluating this topic.
