Summary/Abstract: The article analyses Slavonic folk names for the plants of aconite genus. Close attention is paid to the features of the plants – their colous, shape of flowers, leaves, and roots, place of growing, taste, poisonousness – which underlie the phytonyms, popular beliefs, reflected in etiological legends, and influenced using aconites in folk medicine and folk magic. The final part of the article contains some general conclusions of geography-linguistic nature.
