Summary/Abstract: The Author notices that in spite of realistic justification according to which man is person who has a particular dignity, in the contemporary philosophy there is a serious debate just about person. It gains a particular importance in the context of the Western biotechnological revolution. Nothing but a consciousness of threats which follow hopes inspired Francis Fukuyama to deliberate on human dignity in his “Our Posthuman Future.” In the face of the contemporary biotechnology, the Ameri-can thinker directs his attention on human nature elaborated and verified by the Western civiliza-tion, where the crucial importance bears on such categories as nature, natural law, and human dig-nity. The article contains a criticism of Fukuyama’s reductionist approach to the problem of human dignity in spite of some convergence of his thought with classical philosophy. The Author considers a reduction of the personal dimension of human life to a narrow pragmatism that in eugenics seeks its hopes for the improvement of human nature.
