Summary/Abstract: On 6 May 2011, Mindaugas Tamošaitis defended the PhD dissertation in the field of humanities, history “Peasant Populists in the Political Life of Lithuania in 1926–1940” at Vytautas Magnus University in the extramural procedure. The chairman of the Council of Defence of the Area of History Science Prof. Dr. Šarūnas Liekis (Vytautas Magnus University), members – Prof. Dr. Zenonas Butkus (Vilnius University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saulius Kaubrys (Vilnius University), Prof. Dr. Vygantas Vareikis (Klaipėda University) participated in the defence of the doctoral dissertation of Mindaugas Tamošaitis. In his dissertation, Mindaugas Tamošaitis specified the objectives raised, presented the review of historiography and sources, the main propositions and conclusions. In response to the comments of the opponents, Mindaugas Tamošaitis gave his systemised insights. When speaking about the dissertation author and his dissertation, the scientific supervisor Pranas Janauskas (Vytautas Magnus University) asserted that “it was a great honour for me to have such a doctoral student because he knows how to accept the opinion of others”. The Council of Dissertation Defence unanimously agreed to award the doctor of humanities degree to Mindaugas Tamošaitis for the dissertation “Peasant Populists in the Political Life of Lithuania in 1926–1940”.
