Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the political, economic and social changes that the EU enlargement will bring about both for the “older” Union as such, for its “older” member states and for the state of affairs in the “new” member states. The main questions that the author answers are; will the EU succeed in doing for Eastern Europe what it did the Southern Europe? What road will the fate of the specifically European social and economic order take within the enlarged Union?
