Summary/Abstract: The present study sought to examine theoretically the role of assumed or perceived similarity in interpersonal attraction. The effect of attitudinal similarity depends on the number of similar attitudes and on the importance of these attitudes. However, there are some limits of this effect. When the attitude or the trait is undesirable, the individual is not attracted by the other. Dissimilar, but congruent attitudes or behaviors may produce attraction. While the Research paradigm in which it was investigated was seen sometimes as limited, the basic premise of the similarity-attraction relationship is considered a powerful phenomenon.
