Summary/Abstract: This contribution considers current questions of collective identity and identity ascertainment in Southeast Europe under various aspects. Thereby, emphasis is put on the social-structural changes and rejections, as well as on the identity questions referring to the social status, which are connected with it. As a further reference point of identity problems, the consequences of the Communist regime, the continuing tensions between traditionalism and modernity, minority problems in the „old“ and „new“ national states, migration processes, the affiliation to different cultural complexes, the intellectual “permanent dilemma” between the East and the West, as well as globalisation processes and their identity-relevant effects are addressed.
