Summary/Abstract: The author presents a Venetian document concerning the military and the political relations between the Ottomans and the Christian forces during the year 1538: the Ottoman expedition, directed by Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566), in Moldavia; the cooperation of the Turks with the Tartars and with the Poles, in order to submit and capture the Moldavian prince Petru Rareş (1527-1538; 1541-1546); some details about the plans of the sultan in Moldavia, about the road of the Turkish army and the preparations of the Moldavians in order to defense their country; the bad condition of this army on their way back, in the Balkan Peninsula, in October 1538 etc. Other news arrived in Venice are regarding the most important military operations and other events in Constantinople, Ragusa, Castelnuovo, Rhodos, Alexandria, Syria, the Venetian prisoners, the Ottoman military force, the political rivalries among the Turk leaders. This testimony brings a new image about the public scene of the European and Levantine world at the end of the first half of the 16th century. Particularly, the source is very important for the Romanian history and for the relations of one of the Romanian principalities with the Christian powers and with the Ottoman Empire around the middle of the 16-th century.
