Summary/Abstract: In Bulgaria, according to the Health Insurance Law, it is mandatory and voluntary. In the summer of 2003, in Bulgaria, the first license to a company for voluntary health insurance was issued (CVH I). The reforms and current changes in the healthcare system place patients in a situation of uncertainty of their own health. The results from a variety of Bulgarian inquiries for the patient satisfaction in the last 10 years demonstrate that the mandatory health insurance happens to be insufficient for covering the growing health needs and demands of patients.
