Summary/Abstract: The author presents the ample echo of the 1866 events from the Romanian Principalities, the overthrow of Prince Al. I. Cuza – the so called “February Revolution” in Bucharest – and the election of Prince Carol of Hohenzollern on the throne of the Romanian Principalities, in the German newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung. There are mostly valorised the information comprised in the accounts of the correspondent in Bucharest for this periodical, which recomposed the image offered by him in regard to the events. At the same time, there is presented the great powers’ position, as it is reflected in the above mentioned periodical towards the accomplished fact in Bucharest, which resulted in the foundation of the hereditary constitutional monarchy, finally recognized by the Ottoman Porte and the great powers.
