Summary/Abstract: The article summarises the analysis of doctoral dissertations in the science of education, defended in the Lithuanian higher education schools during a ten-year period, with regard to applied research methods. Groups of quantitative and qualitative methods are singled out and methodological paradigms of their meaning are highlighted. Dissertation research content analysis was used to identify the tendencies of qualitative and quantitative research methods in separate Lithuanian higher education schools and in Lithuania in general. The research revealed that the most often applied methods in doctoral dissertations are the methods that are attributed to quantitative research method group, including the questionnaire survey and testing. Quantitative research methods are most widely used methods at doctoral dissertations defended at Vilnius University and Šiauliai University. Qualitative research methods, though they are not given a priority in any higher school, are used together with quantitative research methods.
