The Hidden Messages of Words: Argumentative Discourse

Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes three interviews having the form of an open conversation. His aim is to derive from the informants’ speech the macrostructure of argumentation. In consists of smaller speech acts, as well as of the concomitant non-verbal means, which the speaker uses in order to maintain а certain communicative strategy and to attain the subjective goal of communication. The three different informants have different strategies, according to the individual „inner states”. The author claims that discourse analysis gives best opportunity for carrying out the links between speech, and cultural code through analyzing the various levels in the informant’s statements.
