Summary/Abstract: The rapid development of translation technology has significantly influenced the way students learn and use foreign languages. Machine translation systems, computer-assisted translation tools, mobile translation applications, electronic dictionaries, and more recently artificial intelligence-based platforms provide learners with immediate access to vocabulary, grammatical structures, contextual meanings, and multilingual content. This article examines the role of translation technology in foreign language learning, with particular attention to its influence on vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, writing, learner autonomy, and intercultural competence. The study also considers potential disadvantages associated with excessive dependence on automated translation, including reduced critical engagement with the target language, inaccurate translations, and difficulties in recognizing contextual or cultural nuances. A mixed-methods approach combining student questionnaires, language-learning assessments, and qualitative interviews can be employed to investigate students’ use and perceptions of translation technologies. The analysis suggests that translation technology can support foreign language acquisition when it is incorporated into pedagogically structured activities rather than used simply to replace students’ own linguistic processing. The study therefore emphasizes the importance of translation literacy and the ability to critically evaluate machine-generated translations. Translation technology should be regarded as a complementary educational resource capable of supporting autonomous, interactive, and reflective foreign language learning.
