Summary/Abstract: The language of the Romanians north of the Tisa has served as a primary vehicle for transmitting historical memory and cultural values, while the national identity of the Romanians on the right bank of the Tisa has been preserved through a complex process of adaptation, cultural resistance, and community continuity. Our study demonstrates that the Tisa has never constituted a boundary; despite the fact that the Romanian-inhabited territory in Transcarpathia has come under various administrations – from the Austro-Hungarian, Romanian, Czechoslovak, Hungarian, and Soviet administrations to the present-day Ukrainian administration – the area under study remains a space of Romanian continuity, as well as one of interaction with neighboring cultures and languages. This study analyzes the consonantal characteristics of the Romanian dialects spoken in the localities of Apșa de Jos, Apșa de Mijloc, Slatina, and Biserica Albă, which constitute key points for dialectological research on the Romanian-speaking population of Transcarpathia.
