Summary/Abstract: There is no dispute that prisoners, just like people living in freedom, have a full right to be guaranteed security. The security of inmates is guaranteed by the applicable provisions of both the Executive Penal Code and other legal acts. Ensuring order and security in penitentiary units is an obligation of the state. On its behalf, these tasks are carried out by the Prison Service. The duty of the penitentiary administration is to ensure the personal security of both inmates and prison staff. The tasks of the Prison Service include counteracting the phenomenon of violence in penitentiary units and the commission of crimes. On the premises of penitentiary institutions and remand centres, the most frequent crimes are fights, beatings, rape, theft, extortion and physical and psychological abuse. It is also the Prison Service's task to counteract acts of self-harm among prisoners.
