Digital identity in practice - analysis of the use of e-ID and digital ID functions on the example of Polish and selected European countries

Summary/Abstract: The article undertakes an analysis of the process of digitization of identity in Poland, with a particular focus on e-IDs and digital IDs. The impact of the diversity of their applications on the perception of their value and accessibility for citizens is taken into account. The subject of the conducted research is the dynamic development of digital identity and the accompanying varying levels of active adoption of its new functionalities. The research problem of this article is the question: Does Poland stand out from the selected seven European countries and where does it stand in relation to these countries in terms of the development of digital identity? The aim of the study was to identify and rate the standard and function of digital identity services of citizens in Poland and to compare them with equivalent models functioning in countries such as: Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine. This allowed us to identify the main determinants of the current state and potential directions of development.
