New Dictionaries at the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Czech Academy of Sciences: Different Approaches, Same Goals

Summary/Abstract: This article examines two bilingual dictionary projects developed at the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Czech Academy of Sciences: the Slovenian–Czech Dictionary and the Upper Sorbian–Czech online dictionary Mudra 2.0. Although differing in their sources, methodology and publication formats, both projects aim to provide reliable lexicographical resources for Czech users and to fill gaps in bilingual Slavic lexicography. The article presents the projects as complementary case studies, focusing on their scope, structure and methodological challenges, including headword selection, corpus use, treatment of examples, and the transition to digital dictionary environments. Finally, some aspects of the role of dictionaries in the era of digital language technologies are discussed.
