Summary/Abstract: This article explores how the Gazeta Gorjului newspaper reflected and legitimized the cultural policies of the Romanian communist regime following the 1968 administrative-territorial reorganization. By analysing press coverage of mass culture – specifically the network of urban and rural institutions, the amateur artistic movement and „new folklore” –, the study examines how these cultural forms were leveraged and integrated into the broader project of shaping a new social and cultural identity.
