Summary/Abstract: This article discusses how ethnography, ethnology and anthropology were reconfigured and restructured institutionally at national level in the post-war socio-political context and how these changes were reflected in Oltenia between 1945 and 1989. Here, as in other regions of the country, institutions or branches promoting the new ideology were established following the Soviet model. Under their auspices, numerous folklore events (shows, competitions, festivals, parades, etc.) were organised and magazines and various other periodicals were printed, all of which were effective in achieving propaganda objectives. Through the messages they conveyed, even articles in the field of traditional culture cannot be disregarded from an ideological point of view.
