Summary/Abstract: School Volunteer Clubs are initiatives that have been developing in Polish schools since the beginning of the 21st century. First of all, they are a space where young people can help those in need. It is worth noting, however, that they are also one of the areas of civic education, preparing young people for active involvement in the life of their local environment or homeland. The main problem of the presented text is the question: To what extent can School Volunteer Clubs prepare young people to participate in civil society? The answer to the specific problem will be provided in three stages: 1. Indicating the main distinguishing features of civil society, i.e. the answer to the question – what should we educate for?; 2. Showing the main assumptions of citizenship education in the school space; 3. Presentation of the assumptions and practical activities of School Volunteer Clubs in the context of civic education. The main method used in the preparation of the text is the hermeneutic method – the last part will contain references to empirical research conducted (by the author of the text) among guardians and members of School Volunteer Clubs regarding the educational value of volunteering. From the broader spectrum of topics undertaken in the research, only those related to civic education will be cited.
