Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the structural and semantic features of comparative phraseological units excerpted from the novel Rod i dom by Safet Sijarić. Comparative phraseological units represent a highly productive type of phraseologism in the Bosnian language, with comparative relations realized through specific structural and semantic patterns. Given that comparative phraseological units constitute a significant portion of the overall phraseological corpus of the novel (as many as 114 such units), they are analyzed in this study as a distinct phraseological type. Particularly noteworthy are the author’s modifications within this type of phraseologism, characterized by expressiveness and vividness, though they occur less frequently. The phraseological units in Sijarić’s novel originate from dialectal and local phraseology, as the language of the novel reflects a specific interplay between dialect and standard language. The novel’s language exhibits phonetic, phonological, morphological, lexical, syntactic, and phraseological features of a specific local/dialectal idiom, primarily the speech of Bihor, the author’s native dialect. The focus of this paper is on comparative phraseological units within the literary-artistic style, with particular attention to their structural and semantic specificities. The aim is to determine the forms and meanings in which this type of phraseologism appears in the novel, as well as its function. The analysis has shown that three-part verbal comparative phraseological units predominate in the novel, while semantically the most frequent are those referring to the physical and character traits of the characters, especially the protagonist Paša. This type of phraseologism has a significant stylistic function in the novel, confirming its important role in literary expression. The phraseological units were excerpted from the text of the novel and subsequently subjected to structural classification and semantic analysis according to semantic fields, using a descriptive method. The results indicate that comparative phraseological units in Safet Sijarić’s novel reflect a local and dialectal phraseological system; therefore, this paper contributes to the study of Bosnian phraseology and literary expression.
