The Footnote in Scholarly Digital Editions: Opportunities and Challenges

Summary/Abstract: The question of the footnote’s place in scholarly digital editions emerged in Polish academic discourse several years ago. In the light of the growing number of digital scholarly editions, including those produced in Polish, as well as the expanding capabilities of digital tools, an updated assessment of the field is essential. The aim of this article is to examine the various ways in which the footnote may function within a digital edition and to outline the narrative possibilities that digital tools offer to editorial commentary.
