Summary/Abstract: The paper examines how traditional costumes in Bulgaria and China come to life in contemporary festival practices, becoming rituals of belonging and cultural recognition. The Bulgarian folk attire and the traditional Chinese dress are presented as living visual archives that carry memory, symbolism, and aesthetic meaning, all of which are reactivated on the festival stage. The overview of key festivals in both countries shows that, despite their distinct cultural worlds, traditional dress everywhere serves as a bridge between past and present and as a vital medium for shaping and experiencing identity.
