Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on resolutions as the legal forms of taking action by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. Resolutions regulate the Sejm’s internal organisation and conduct of work. They are also used to resolve other important public issues, including those concerning appointments of certain state officials. The significance of resolutions should be considered against the background of the Sejm’s systemic position in a parliamentary democracy as well as in the light of the principle of the separation and balance of powers. The article addresses three issues. Firstly, it defines the concept of a resolution as a kind of legal act, and presents the classification of resolutions under the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Secondly, the article discusses the legal bases for the Sejm’s adoption of resolutions. Thirdly, the analysis addresses the question of the durability of the Sejm’s resolutions and the admissibility of replacing them with other legal acts.
