Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the development of discursive competence in foreign language teaching at the early primary school stage (grades 1-3). Discursive competence is presented as a crucial component of communicative competence. The process of moving from isolated words, through sentences, to simple oral and written texts requires a conscious methodological approach that integrates linguistic and communicative goals. Properly selected didactic strategies not only support vocabulary and grammar acquisition but also foster the ability to organise statements and participate in authentic communication. In this context, the teacher becomes a guide who gradually introduces learners to text-building strategies, ensuring that discursive competence develops as a foundation for effective foreign language use in both classroom and everyday situations.
