Summary/Abstract: The aim is to evaluate the Plaza Agreement in light of the literature on the subject, providing implications for potential future monetary agreements. For several decades, debate has raged over the likelihood of a repeat of the Plaza Hotel-style currency agreement. Discussions about this agreement arise when the US economy begins to contract due to growing trade deficits, when the dollar rapidly strengthens, limiting the competitiveness of American companies, and when Congress, as a result of the growing trade deficit, drafts protectionist legislation. Currently, the global economy has developed in a tripolar with the growing importance of Asian countries, which is a factor limiting the possibility of re-establishing a monetary agreement. The analysis of the Plaza Agreement and of the subsequent attempts at currency agreements undertaken in the article shows the significance of the problem for the stability of the world economy and implies the need to undertake further research on this issue.
