Summary/Abstract: The article aims at abstracting the way how the poem is comprehended from the linguistic works by Anna Pajdzińska, mainly from the collection of her papers entitled The Poem: A Complex Sense. Although her reflections on the poem do not result in the development of a new verse theory, her viewpoints deserve attention for three reasons. Firstly, in her works, efforts to integrate the linguistic and literary knowledge continue. Secondly, in practice, the usefulness of various approaches offered by the verse theory, ranging from the traditional and prosodic ones to the graphic one, is proved useful. Thirdly, the necessity to apply the old tools and the latest directions in the linguistic studies during the research into the poem is confirmed. Furthermore, what is the most important in this linguistic concept, unlike in many other ideas, the division into lines has been noticed and appreciated since it is assigned significant sense-forming functions.
