Early Republican Period Educational Buildings Karaburun Saip-Ambarseki Primary School

Summary/Abstract: The education of new generations has been one of the most important issues in the Early Republican period. In this context, almost every corner of Anatolia was the scene of intensive construction activities. Within the scope of the Primary School Education Plan prepared in 1926, many primary school buildings were constructed in and around İzmir with the efforts of the governor of İzmir, Kazım Dirik, and the participation of the public. The primary school, which was completed between 1931 and 1935 and jointly used by the villages of Saip and Ambarseki in Karaburun, İzmir, is also among the buildings constructed during this period.Until 2006, the building continued its educational activities, but like many similar village primary schools, it was abandoned after this date and which lost its original function. It is very important that these symbolic buildings, that witnessed the educational mobilization of the Republic, are documented and taken under protection in terms of their designs reflecting the social, cultural and economic structure and architectural style of the period and their memorial values. Saip-Ambarseki Village Primary School provides important data in this respect.
